When you trigger the spell to capture the fire fairies, a background image appears with the sine-wave grating. The grating moves at the same time we switch between fire fairy scenes.

The moving sine-wave background generates an obvious global motion pattern. In our display, this pattern moves left and right. Now your eye is getting a lot of consistent information that movement in the scene is going from left to right and back to the left again.
