Ok. So what is motion capture, anyway, and why does it happen? Good question. Just don’t tell Professor Shadow the answer, because he is sure to find a way to turn the information to his advantage!

Motion capture begins when we have small dots appearing randomly on the screen, like "snow" on an old-fashioned TV set. If the snow is "white noise," the dots really do appear and disappear randomly. However, some of the dots will be close to where another dot was a moment ago. That situation creates an opportunity for us to experience apparent motion. (If you haven't read about apparent motion, now might be a good time!)
