“The forebrain is the remaining major division of the brain and consists of all parts of the brain we haven't talked about. Neuroanatomists divide the forebrain into the diencephalon and the telencephalon. Perhaps you remember that the prefix ‘tel’ means ‘end’— the telencephalon is the ‘end brain.’ That’s where all that ascending sensory information ends up. If you were bald and your skin and skull were transparent, most of what we would see by looking into your head is a major portion of the telencephalon. The diencephalon is the underneath part of the forebrain and is continuous with the midbrain.”
