By the age of 3, Viki had begun to imitate her human “parents” quite frequently during play. When she first became interested in helping with “grownup” tasks, Viki had little experience with any tools whatsoever. She is shown here, at age 6, hammering nails into a wooden box.

Note the different faces of the hammer that Viki uses to pound in her nails. At some points, her motion loosely resembles the “swing” that an adult would employ, which adds to the power delivered by leverage. But usually Viki is just banging on the head of the nail without much mechanical advantage. However, Viki does seem to know which end of the tool to hold, and which to use!
